How 30 Minutes of Exercise Per Day Can Greatly Increase Your Mental Well-being.

Did you know that research has consistently shown that exercise can have a positive impact on mental health?

Everyone is looking for a ‘magic pill’, something that will really help them move forward and feel better. Ironically a magic pill is literally just out the door… going for a walk.

Exercise improves your mood, reduces stress and increases overall well-being. Exercise has been shown to release endorphins, which are the body’s natural mood boosters and can help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.

The connection between physical activity and mental well-being is well established in scientific research; with a growing body of evidence suggests that regular exercise can have a profound impact on reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, improving mood and increasing cognitive function.

A study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research found that just 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, such as brisk walking, three times a week can be as effective as medication for reducing symptoms of depression.

Another study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that individuals who engaged in regular physical activity had a 43% lower risk of developing depression than those who were inactive.

We were born wanting to be outside, wanting to run around and have fun. When there is a negative feeling attached to exercise, we always work on this in a session. You would be surprised what comes up. Often it stems back to childhood days having to run at a school competition and not winning, or even being told sports isn’t your strength.

Whatever the reason, if your mind is holding you back from getting outside and moving, reach out. The health benefits to exercise are great and as I said above, a 30 minute gentle walk can greatly improve your life.

My clients that ask for help with exercise motivation may be wanting to lose weight or trying to find that work life balance to get back into exercise after having children for example. Really it doesn’t matter what someone is seeing me for, I always recommend getting out and walking 30 minutes a day. This doesn’t have a be a fast walk that can cause pain or stress, a gentle mindful walk can be just as good. It seems to be the biggest motivator to get out and move, the great thing is, it helps your mental health as much as your physical.

Hypnotherapy can have a significant impact on exercise motivation by addressing the underlying beliefs, attitudes and reasons why your mind just won’t let you get out and do it. Paired with craniosacral therapy to help free your body of its aches and pains, at Nekawa we have the perfect services to get you back on track to health and well-being.

For some, even past experiences can play a big role in loss of motivation. When the nervous system is overwhelmed, it can cause the body to shut down - almost like going into a state of freeze.

Lack of  motivation, low mood, weight gain, finding life hard, wanting to stay in bed, these are signs that it may be time to reach out and ask for help.

Hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy apply techniques to help release the energy of past events that are causing trouble and regulate the nervous system improving your overall mind and body health.

If you are struggling to get out and exercise, reach out. You may be surprised just how easy it can be :)
