When Life Throws us Spanners

Life’s Spanners and the Doors they Open.

We often hear the word “trauma” thrown around and it can feel like a loaded term - one that might not seem to apply to us at first glance. But the truth is, trauma is deeply personal. What unsettles one person to their core may barely ripple the surface for someone else. It's not about comparison. It’s about impact. It’s about what shakes us, challenges us or causes us to lose connection with ourselves - even temporarily.

But let’s call it what it often feels like in real life: spanners in the works.

Life has a way of throwing spanners at us: unexpected moments, curveballs, losses, shifts, disappointments, at every stage. Some hit harder than others. Some take our breath away. Some simply derail us from the path we thought we were on; and sometimes, it’s the accumulation of smaller things that causes the biggest internal rupture.

Overcoming these moments isn't about pretending they didn’t happen. It’s about tuning in. Listening. Asking: “What is life trying to show me here?” Sometimes it’s an invitation to slow down. Other times, it’s a push to set firmer boundaries, to reassess priorities or to let go of something no longer serving us.

At NEKAWA, I don’t approach healing as a clinical checkbox of symptoms or diagnoses. I take the time to honour the lived experience, not revisit the past, and work with the mark that has been left. Each of those spanners will reveal something to you and together we can work out what that is - allowing you to embrace growth.  Essentially we hold space for those moments - big or small - that left a mark, equipping you with the tools to face any future spanners face on.

This is the work I do - gently, respectfully - through craniosacral therapy and hypnotherapy. These aren't just techniques; they’re tools that help reconnect people with their own inner compass. Because ultimately, healing isn’t something I do to someone. It’s something that unfolds through them, when the body and mind are ready.

Growth doesn’t always come from the easy parts of life. More often than not, it’s in the spanners - the disruptions - that we’re given the chance to find depth, clarity and strength we didn’t know we had.

So whether you label it trauma or not doesn’t matter. If you’re feeling disconnected, unsettled or just not quite yourself - you don’t have to wait until things get worse. That inner nudge is enough.

Let’s start there.

Book your 15 minute consult today and together let’s release the mark.
